Leadership
Course Description: This course provides the student with the opportunity to identify, explore, and develop the knowledge, skills, and attitudes required of a nurse leader. Emphasis is placed on contemporary issues which include professionalism, communication, conflict resolution, informatics, team development, shared governance, delegation, healthcare policy, ethical decision making, change and innovation, safety and quality improvement.
Course Objectives: Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Integrate knowledge from the art and science of nursing, the natural/behavior sciences and the humanities to develop leadership and management skills for the practice of nursing.
- Demonstrate skills in nursing leadership/management that are founded in evidence-based practice.
- Apply the professional nursing code of ethics and professional guidelines to clinical practice.
- Integrate technology and information management tools to support safe processes of care and evaluate outcomes.
- Integrate leadership skills of systems thinking, communication, and facilitating change in a variety of settings.
- Demonstrate effective communication, conflict resolution and positive interprofessional working relationships.
- Demonstrate the application of leadership/management knowledge and skills to address health care delivery issues.
